2019 SPRING AND FALL SEASONS

2019 FALL

OCTOBER 23-30: Our “winterizing” is complete. Baseball is over for the year. See you all next spring!

OCTOBER 18: Oooooh, it was ghosts & goblins time at for our annual Halloween Party at the KML ball park. There were some GREAT costumes. And lots of games, prizes, food, and fun for all! (p.s. If you didn’t get your 2019 trophy. please contact Joyce at joycelbyrne@aol.com.)

OCTOBER 12: Our last games of the season–and we’re celebrating with an all day party!! Trophies and pizza. So, come on down! Just know that it will be cold–so dress warmly! Blankets welcome! Buddies needed for the 3 and 4 pm games.

OCTOBER 5: GAMES CANCELLED ALL DAY due to rain!

SEPTEMBER 28: We’ll be following our “double up” schedule. Be sure to check to make sure you know when your team is playing.

SEPTEMBER 21: Our season is half over, but we’re still having fun playing baseball. Join us for a full day of games (regular scheduling), assuming Mother Nature cooperates! NOTE: The annual World Food & Music Festival is going on downtown this weekend in the Western Gateway area. Avoid trying to go through downtown to get the KML ballpark. And we’re playing, so come on down! Great buddy teams this morning–Norwalk Girls Cross Country team and Pena Boxing for the 9 and 10 AM games. And we welcome the Des Moines Buccaneers for our noon game. Believe it or not, we got in all eight games today! Goofy weather.

SEPTEMBER 17: Our annual ALL STAR Game night with DM Police and DM Fire Departments as our buddies was a HUGE success. Plenty of players and MANY police and fire representatives. THANKS to all!

SEPTEMBER 14: Whoa…it’s Cy-Hawk game time! Wear your favorite school colors and join the fun. Watch the play schedule, as we’re doing the “double up” teams again this week. And the weather is great–it’s the Orioles vs the White Sox. Come on down… We had to CANCEL our 1:45 PM game due to the rain.

SEPTEMBER 7: We’re trying a new schedule today–we’re calling it our “double up” team schedule. Be sure to check when your team is playing as this is not the “normal” schedule.

AUGUST 31: It’s time for our fall season opener! Full day of games beginning at 9 AM. Concession manager Bill is stocking up–his walking tacos and popcorn will soon be available…yummmmm

2019 SPRING

JUNE 29: MOTHER NATURE brought summer in with a vengeance! We played through the 1 PM game by doubling up our teams in the morning. Being the last day of the Spring Season, we wanted to give all a chance to play by not cancelling due to the heat. Thanks to ALL of our scheduled buddies, too, for being flexible!
And, thanks, to area Dairy Queens for supplying Dilly Bars for our players! Nothing like great ice cream on a hot day.

JUNE 17: Wow! What a great night hosting the Urbandale (6 PM) and Ankeny MIracle Leagues (7 PM)! Talk about TWO ALL-STAR events! PLUS we had special visitors via the Iowa International Center–visitors from Africa and Haiti (through the U.S. Dept of State). These foreign visitors joined us to learn more about recreational opportunities for folks with special needs here in the U.S. AND our new friends from AmeriGroup Iowa served as our buddies.

JUNE 15: PICTURE DAY! Individual pictures and team pictures. And, no rain!

JUNE 8: It’s a glorious summer day–bright skies and cool breezes. Next up–Phillies vs Cardinals at 1 PM with Roosevelt HS Boys Baseball team as our buddies. Be mindful of traffic and road closures. Fleur Drive has reopened since flooding. The Downtown Farmers Market is in full swing. Mother Nature has cooperated. We’re playing ball!

JUNE 1: ALERT: We cancelled the 9 and 10 AM games due to radar showing storms starting at 8:20 AM. Red Sox, White Sox, Twins, or Phillies, were urged to come play at any other time during the day. By 10:55 AM, we had BLUE SKY, and finished all of the day’s remaining games. It was also a special day as we remembered Brewers player Jesse Anderson with his “angel” player in our Kiwanis Memory Garden.

MAY 25, 7:15 AM: The rain held off–and we played! TRAFFIC ALERT: Avoid going through downtown DM altogether–not only the usual Farmers Market, but also the CelebrAsian Festival that has both Grand and Locust blocked off around the Sculpture Garden.
Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend by bringing friends and family to the KML ball park. Full day of games beginning at 9 AM. Traveling? Enjoy, but be safe.

MAY 18: Here we go again! Saturday, 7:15 AM–We’re watching the weather forecasts closely. Looks like we have a dry window until early afternoon. So we’re planning to play today! Check your play schedules for today–we have NO games scheduled at 2, 3, and 4 PM. Watch here and Facebook for any updates.

MAY 11: We delayed opening ceremonies from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. And had our 9 AM teams play with the 10 AM teams. Played all other games as scheduled. We recommended coats and blankets for spectators.
Our SPRING play schedule has been updated and is now available as a downloadable PDF. BE SURE TO PRINT OFF THE UPDATED SCHEDULE! Click on “PLAYERS” above to access. And registration is also available NOW for both players and coaches/assistant coaches.
